Carmen Monoxide
Mexico City, with its large and active LGBT community, has become a destination for Latin American drag queens migrating for career opportunities and a collective queer existence. In 2020, Carmen Monoxide packed two bags - one for Carmen, her drag persona, and one for Neto, as her friends call her in her day-to-day life. She migrated from Guatemala to Mexico City to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time drag queen. Amid the pandemic, Carmen found a way to adapt to a new country, build a community with other local drag queens and find ways to make a living as a performer.
